Technical & Quality Manager

Job Title: Head of Technical & Quality 
Location: Co. Westmeath, Ireland 

Job Overview:
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Head of Technical and Quality to join a rapidly growing food production company. Reporting directly to the General Manager, the successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of Food Safety and Quality, ensuring that the company’s products meet both statutory and customer requirements. This role provides the chance to lead the quality function, work on technical projects, and drive continuous improvement within the business.

Key Responsibilities:

Food Safety Objectives:

  • Ensure the consistency of product quality across all departments, meeting customer specifications and safety requirements.
  • Lead a positive culture of food safety, guiding your team through fair and respectful management, and driving continuous improvement in quality assurance processes.
  • Collaborate with departmental managers to address quality assurance issues and implement changes swiftly.
  • Foster innovation and flexibility to drive improvements in quality assurance.
  • Work with external regulatory bodies, such as the Department of Agriculture, Food & Marine, to maintain compliance.
  • Maintain GFSI certification standards and ensure the site adheres to legal and customer requirements.

Technical Governance and Support:

  • Provide technical guidance to the team, ensuring compliance with food safety regulations and contributing to the company’s strategic goals.
  • Develop and maintain quality systems and process plans for the site operation, ensuring they align with customer and EU regulatory requirements.
  • Implement technical improvement projects in response to non-conformances or customer complaints, ensuring continuous compliance.
  • Stay up-to-date with the latest legislation, scientific advancements, and industry standards, and keep the business informed of any changes.
  • Manage key customer relationships, ensuring information is communicated and maintained efficiently.

Research and Development:

  • Participate in the R&D process, supporting projects involving new ingredients, processes, equipment, packaging, and product applications.
  • Conduct risk assessments on new products, engineering equipment, and any proposed changes to ensure BRCGS compliance.

Team Development:

  • Lead, mentor, and guide the technical team, encouraging teamwork, skill development, and collaboration across departments.
  • Set meaningful and measurable goals for the team and provide regular feedback to drive performance and individual development.

Skills, Knowledge, and Experience:

  • A relevant 3rd level qualification in Food Science or a related subject.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in a Technical or Quality Management role within the food manufacturing industry, ideally in a prepared food processing environment.
  • Previous experience with BRCGS certification audits and working with retailers is essential.
  • Strong IT skills with proficiency in Microsoft Office.
  • Proven experience in managing projects, people, and driving results in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work independently and within a team.
