We are hiring for our client, SONI (System Operator for Northern Ireland), a leading organisation in the energy sector, seeking a Power Systems Evolution Manager to join their Future Power Systems team. The Role
As the Power Systems Evolution Manager, you will lead a team of engineers and analysts to develop and implement operational policies, tools, and system capabilities that enable the integration of new technologies and high levels of renewable energy. You will work collaboratively across organisations and with key stakeholders to ensure the grid operates securely and efficiently.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the delivery of the Operational Policy Roadmap to achieve 100% renewable electricity capability by 2030.
- Oversee technical analysis to inform operational policy decisions and integrate new technologies.
- Develop and maintain advanced power system modelling capabilities.
- Represent the organisation externally at industry bodies, working groups, and forums.
- Build strong relationships with stakeholders, including technology providers, regulators, and policymakers.
- Manage a portfolio of projects, ensuring effective controls around staffing, budgets, and performance.
- Promote a culture of innovation, inclusivity, and stakeholder focus within the team.
The Person
We are looking for a dynamic and experienced professional with a passion for renewable energy and a proven track record in leading technical teams.
Essential Criteria:
- Degree in engineering, economics, mathematics, or a relevant technical/analytical field.
- At least 8 years of relevant experience.
- Strong understanding of energy markets and/or power system modelling.
- Knowledge of energy system flexibility and emerging technologies (e.g., interconnection, energy storage).
- Excellent organisational, interpersonal, and teamwork skills.
- Proven ability to lead, coach, and develop others.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain complex technical topics to non-technical audiences.
- Programme or project management experience with a track record of successful outcomes.
Desirable Criteria:
- Experience in the electricity, gas, or wider energy sector.
- Knowledge of all-island energy policy and the Single Electricity Market.
- Experience engaging with regulators, policymakers, or external industry groups.
