The Role
As the Power Systems Capacity and Flexibility Manager, you will:
- Lead a team of analysts and engineers to assess long-term electricity supply and demand.
- Oversee technical analysis for resource adequacy planning, including capacity requirements for future auctions.
- Build team capability through coaching, skills development, and knowledge sharing.
- Act as a key point of contact for industry trends, providing insights to inform strategic decisions.
- Represent the organisation at external forums, working groups, and industry bodies.
- Build strong partnerships with stakeholders, including distribution system operators and third-party providers.
- Manage a portfolio of projects, ensuring effective planning, budgeting, and risk management.
- Promote a collaborative, innovative, and proactive team culture.
The Person
We are looking for someone with:
- A degree in engineering, economics, mathematics, or a related technical/analytical field, with at least 8 years of relevant experience.
- Strong understanding of energy markets and/or resource adequacy modelling.
- Knowledge of energy system flexibility, such as interconnection, energy storage, and techno-economic modelling.
- Excellent organisational, interpersonal, and communication skills, with the ability to explain complex topics to non-technical audiences.
- Proven experience in leading, coaching, or developing teams.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a focus on practical solutions.
- Experience delivering complex projects or programmes successfully.
- Ability to influence, build consensus, and work collaboratively across teams.
Desirable:
- Experience in the electricity, gas, or wider energy sector.
- Knowledge of all-island energy policy and the Single Electricity Market.
- Experience engaging with regulators, policymakers, or external industry groups.
