We are hiring for our client, a well-established power generation business in Belfast, seeking an experienced Mechanical Engineer to join its site-based engineering team.
This is a key position supporting the Engineering Manager with the supervision, planning and co-ordination of mechanical maintenance activities across a critical industrial facility.
The successful Mechanical Engineer will take ownership of mechanical integrity, plant reliability and continuous improvement, combining hands-on technical troubleshooting with longer-term maintenance and reliability projects.
The role would suit a Mechanical Engineer who enjoys accountability, solving complex technical problems and delivering measurable improvements in plant availability and performance.

The Role
- Support the Engineering Manager with the day-to-day management and planning of mechanical maintenance activities
- Supervise routine, scheduled and major repairs across mechanical, pneumatic and hydraulic systems
- Identify and implement reliability improvements to increase plant uptime, flexibility and performance
- Undertake root cause analysis and promote a first-time-fix approach
- Provide technical support to Operations and other site teams
- Support outage planning, maintenance co-ordination and improvement projects
- Manage contractors and ensure work is completed safely and to the required quality standards
- Help develop and improve the site’s computerised maintenance management system
- Ensure compliance with health, safety, environmental and permit-to-work requirements
- Deputise for the Engineering Manager when required
The Person
- Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline
- Candidates with an HNC or HND and significant senior-level heavy-industry experience may also be considered
- Strong experience maintaining and troubleshooting process-related mechanical equipment
- Experience with critical rotating plant, including industrial fans, pumps and auxiliary systems
- Steam turbine, steam generation or power generation experience is highly desirable
- Understanding of PSSR, LOLER, safe systems of work and permit-to-work procedures
- Strong leadership, contractor management and communication skills
- Proactive approach with the ability to work autonomously and take ownership of plant performance
