The Role
We are seeking an experienced Health & Safety Manager to lead all H&S activities on behalf of our client, a major player in the food sector with a large operational site in Balbriggan, Co. Dublin. Reporting to the General Manager, you will drive the highest safety standards, ensure compliance across all site activities, and support continuous improvement of the Health & Safety Management System.
Key Responsibilities
Health & Safety Leadership
- Ensure full compliance with all relevant legislation, customer standards, and internal policies.
- Chair the Health & Safety Committee and coordinate all related meetings.
- Lead thorough accident and near-miss investigations, ensuring root cause analysis, corrective actions, and appropriate follow-up.
- Manage Return-to-Work assessments and communicate fitness-to-work updates.
- Oversee statutory reporting of accidents and dangerous occurrences.
Compliance & Systems Management
- Maintain and update all Risk Assessments, SOPs, Safety Statements, and COSHH documentation.
- Deliver and coordinate H&S training (e.g., First Aid, Manual Handling) in collaboration with department heads.
- Implement internal audit programmes and ensure constant audit readiness.
- Compile weekly and monthly H&S performance data for management review.
Operational Engagement
- Carry out daily site safety walks and drive continuous improvement.
- Ensure management and supervisory teams are actively engaged in Health & Safety best practice.
- Manage contractor compliance, work permits, and site regulations.
Facilities
- Fire alarm testing and associated safety documentation.
- Oversight of contractor control and authorisation processes.
Ethical & Compliance
- Work with HR to ensure ethical compliance and readiness for social audits (e.g., SMETA).
- Assist with internal compliance investigations and documentation requests.
- Liaise with customers, auditors, regulatory bodies, and insurers as required.
