Health, Safety & Environment Manager
We are hiring for our client, an established manufacturing business, to recruit an experienced Health, Safety & Environment Manager.
Working closely with the Leadership and Operations Teams, the Health, Safety & Environment Manager will take ownership of the development, implementation and continuous improvement of Health, Safety and Environmental programmes across the business.
Reporting to the HR Manager, this is a broad, hands-on Health, Safety & Environment Manager role covering compliance, risk management, training, incident investigation, auditing, emergency preparedness and safety culture. The successful candidate will also act as the companys GDPR Officer and support the management of insurance and workplace claims.

The Role
- Ensure compliance with relevant Health & Safety legislation, policies and company procedures.
- Maintain, review and continuously improve the Health & Safety Management System.
- Conduct workplace inspections, internal audits and risk assessments, ensuring appropriate controls are implemented.
- Develop and update Safe Operating Procedures and monitor adherence to safe systems of work.
- Deliver H&S inductions and coordinate and deliver Manual Handling Training.
- Organise mandatory H&S training and maintain accurate training and refresher records.
- Investigate accidents, incidents and near misses, completing root cause analysis and implementing corrective and preventative actions.
- Analyse incident trends and make recommendations to improve safety performance.
- Support external customer and regulatory audits and ensure corrective actions are completed.
- Chair Health & Safety Committee meetings and encourage employee engagement in hazard and near-miss reporting.
- Prepare monthly Health & Safety reports and KPI updates.
- Coordinate fire drills and emergency exercises and support Fire Wardens and First Aiders.
- Act as the primary liaison with insurers, insurance brokers and legal representatives regarding workplace claims.
- Coordinate investigation reports, witness statements, CCTV footage and supporting documentation for claims.
- Work with HR and department managers on employee injury claims and return-to-work plans where appropriate.
- Act as the companys GDPR Officer, supporting compliance with GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018.
The Person
- Previous experience in a Health & Safety Manager, HS&E Manager or similar senior safety role.
- Experience within manufacturing, FMCG, food manufacturing or another operational environment would be highly advantageous.
- Strong working knowledge of Health & Safety legislation, risk assessments and safe systems of work.
- Relevant Health & Safety qualification such as NEBOSH, IOSH or equivalent is desirable.
- Experience conducting audits, workplace inspections and incident investigations.
- Strong root cause analysis and corrective action experience.
- Ability to confidently deliver Health & Safety training; Manual Handling Instructor experience would be advantageous.
- Strong communication and influencing skills with the ability to engage employees at all levels.
- Organised and detail-focused with strong reporting and documentation skills.
- Experience of insurance claims and/or GDPR compliance would be beneficial.
- Practical, proactive approach to Health & Safety and continuous improvement.
