Description
We are hiring for our client, a leading FMCG food manufacturer with operations across the UK & Ireland, who are seeking a Group Packaging Technologist to join their Procurement team on a 9–12 month maternity cover contract.
This Group Packaging Technologist role will play a key part in delivering packaging projects across multiple production sites, supporting NPD, optimisation, sustainability, and cost improvement initiatives. Working closely with suppliers and internal stakeholders, the successful Group Packaging Technologist will help improve how packaging is designed, approved, implemented, and governed across the business.

The Role
-
Deliver packaging projects supporting NPD, optimisation, and sustainability initiatives.

Lead and manage the Product Change Procedure for packaging, including supplier and stakeholder engagement.

Plan, manage, and co-ordinate packaging trials, ensuring all documentation is completed through the gate process.

Maintain and approve packaging specifications, challenging suppliers to ensure legal compliance.

Support cost reduction and value engineering initiatives aligned with procurement budgets.

Ensure all packaging meets legal and regulatory requirements, including emerging packaging legislation.

Provide updates to the wider business on legislative and compliance changes affecting packaging.

Support sustainability strategy through packaging improvement initiatives.

Work closely with Procurement, Technical, Operations, and external suppliers to implement change effectively.
The Person
-
Minimum 2 years’ experience in a packaging or packaging technology role within FMCG or
3 years’ experience in food manufacturing (e.g. Quality / Technical). -
Degree-qualified in Packaging Technology, Food Science, or a related discipline.

Strong understanding of packaging materials, structural design, and print processes.

Excellent communication skills with the ability to build strong internal and external relationships.

Proven project management capability with strong attention to detail.

Good understanding of supply chain challenges, sustainability, and legislation.

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with proficiency in Excel.

Full driving licence required.
