Desk Manager - Logistics and Transport

We are hiring for our client, a leading logistics and transport company, to appoint a Desk Manager based in Co. Antrim. 

This Desk Manager role offers a unique opportunity to manage and oversee the desk operations, ensuring efficient traffic planning, driver management, and continuous improvement in operations. The successful Desk Manager will be the first escalation point for any driver and customer issues, and will play a key role in supporting and developing a growing logistics operation.

The Role

  • Manage the day-to-day operations of the Desk and ensure staffing levels are maintained
  • Train, develop and support staff, conducting performance reviews and identifying development opportunities
  • Be the first escalation point for driver and customer issues, resolving and escalating as needed
  • Ensure fleet management, including scheduling repairs and servicing with the Fleet Manager
  • Oversee the management of contracts and ensure first-class service delivery
  • Coordinate driver holidays, timekeeping, and other personnel requirements
  • Produce reports and support the Transport Operations Manager with operational improvements
  • Support and liaise with planners and coordinators on operational tasks
  • Ensure adherence to all company procedures (debriefing, POD, paperwork, training processes)
  • Manage staff escalations in a timely manner and escalate to the Transport Operations Manager when necessary

The Person

  • Previous experience in a Traffic Manager or Senior Transport Planner role
  • Excellent geographical knowledge of the UK
  • Strong communication skills and comfortable interacting with all business levels
  • High level of IT proficiency, with a digital-first operations approach
  • Knowledge of transport legislation and regulations
  • Strong timekeeping skills with an ability to work within structured timelines
  • Effective problem-solving abilities
