Underwriter – Belfast
We are hiring for our client, a well-established commercial insurance provider, to recruit an experienced Underwriter for their Belfast office. In this role, you will support the profitable development of the SME account by underwriting a range of commercial risks, managing both renewals and new business while building strong relationships with brokers.

The Role
- Underwrite commercial risks within agreed processes and risk appetites.
- Negotiate renewals, quotations, and handle ad hoc enquiries with brokers.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with brokers to support new business development and retention.
- Provide tailored insurance solutions while managing cases to ensure profitable outcomes.
- Ensure compliance with all legal, regulatory, and policy requirements.
- Contribute to high standards of customer satisfaction by delivering efficient and accurate responses.
- Develop and maintain good internal relationships to support team and customer deliverables.
The Person
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience in commercial insurance, ideally in underwriting, but broking or claims experience may also be considered.
- Strong technical knowledge across a range of commercial insurance products.
- Results-driven, with excellent negotiation skills and a client-focused approach.
- Able to work to tight deadlines and deliver high-quality results.
- Strong working knowledge of most commercial classes of business and associated insurance products.
- Proficient in IT (Excel and other platforms).
- Highly motivated and proactive, with a keen attention to detail.
Desirable:
- Cert CII (or working towards it).
